“I’m sorry you have no government to run to…” – Nigerian lady abroad apologises to Nigerians

A Nigerian woman living overseas, known online as Adadioranmma, has provoked strong reactions after speaking to Africans, especially Nigerians, about what she called inadequate governance and a lack of basic facilities.

In a social media video that went viral, she apologised to the populace for what she described as a “systemic failure” and expressed regret about the leadership situation in many African nations.

“I felt compelled to apologise to Africans who, in my opinion, have never truly experienced good governance or effective leadership,” Adadioranmma wrote in her message.

Many citizens are compelled to meet their own fundamental needs, such as security, energy, water, and other necessities that the state should typically provide, she bemoaned.

She also bemoaned the state of the infrastructure, highlighting inadequate transportation systems and a dearth of public services.

The woman also bemoaned the state of healthcare and education, characterising them as luxury primarily available to the wealthy.

She claims that while access to great healthcare is still out of reach for a significant portion of the population, many families find it difficult to pay for their children’s education.

She emphasised how difficult it is for residents to pay for clothing, food, and housing without government assistance.

To my brothers and sisters in Africa, especially those from Nigeria, I’m sorry. I’m really sorry. I need to apologize to you.

I’m sorry that you do not know what it means to have a good government. I’m sorry that you have never experienced leadership, good leadership, and what it means to be protected. I’m sorry that you have to be the one to provide your own security, sometimes your own electricity, your own water, your own gas.

I’m sorry that you do not have access to good roads like this. I’m sorry that education is a luxury for you. You have to work hard to send your children to school. You do not know what it means to enjoy good education for free.

I’m so sorry that health care is a luxury made for only the rich. You are not able to access good and quality health care, even when you need it the most.

I’m sorry that you have to spend so much on food, housing, and clothing without any support from the government. I’m really sorry. I’m so, so sorry that when there’s an emergency, you have no one to run to. You have no government to run to or to call. Nobody comes to your aid. You have to figure everything out for yourself just because you live in Africa.

I’m so sorry. I’m so sorry for the struggles, the pains, the burden that little children bear, hawking, selling on the streets, hunger, starvation, just because they are Black African children. I am sorry from the depth of my heart.

We have failed you. We have failed you. We have failed you.

I do not know what else to do other than to apologize and to hope that someday you can experience what it means to be valued. You can experience what it means to be a citizen of a country that actually looks out for you. I pray that one day you, not in any other land, not when you go abroad, in your own mother’s land, you’re going to experience value, protection, security from your government in your own motherland. Safety, I pray and hope that that day will come. But for the meantime, I am really sorry. I’m sorry.”

Since then, the video has generated a range of responses, with many Nigerians sharing their opinions in the comments section.
