“I’m not joining ADC…, no one is stepping down for me” – Peter Obi

Peter Obi, a former Labour Party presidential candidate, has denied suggestions that he intends to officially join the Africa Democratic Congress (ADC), calling the reports false.

During an interactive session on X on Sunday night, Obi stated that he has been involved in the ADC-led coalition since its inception, making any formal “joining” redundant.

He explained that recent discussions regarding his political future had given the incorrect impression of his position inside the coalition.

According to Obi, his relationship with the ADC precedes current public conjecture and is based on a shared political understanding.

Obi also addressed claims that some coalition members were stepping down in his favour.

He denied such allegations, emphasising that no agreement existed that elevates him over other leaders.

“I am not joining ADC. I can’t re-join what I am already a part of,” Obi said.

He added that the coalition operates on collective engagement rather than individual ambition.

“Nobody is stepping down for me in ADC,” he said.

The former Anambra State governor took the opportunity to reiterate his support for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, characterising him as a coalition leader.

According to Obi, the alliance’s members continue to value cooperation and mutual respect.

“We have all agreed to work together and Atiku remains my respected leader,” he said.
