“I’m a Christian, but I still use charms” – Sunday Igboho reveals

Sunday Igboho, an agitator for the Yoruba country, has sparked new online emotions after publicly stating that he is a Christian who also uses traditional charms.

The protester was seen speaking to a group of traditional leaders in a widely shared video on social media, discussing his spiritual life, upbringing, and religious background.

Igboho proudly stated that his practice of ancient spirituality is not hindered by his Christian faith.

“I am a Christian, but I use charms. I do all religions. Even Islamic father, Muideen Ajayi Bello is a Muslim, I am a Christian. I was born in church, but I do charms. I was trained in the act. Everyone knows my father is a babalawo in Modakeke,” he said.

He clarified that he was raised in Modakeke, Osun State, after his family moved there from Igboho, a historic village in the Oke-Ogun region of Oyo State, where he was born.

He claims that because his father is a well-known babalawo in the community, he was exposed to customs at a young age.

Additionally, Igboho emphasised that he has no problem interacting with people of different religions and does not think it is improper to combine beliefs.

Using Islamic cleric Muideen Ajayi Bello as an example, he pointed out that religion shouldn’t be a barrier to cross-cultural communication.

Since then, his remarks have caused controversy on the internet. Some questioned whether Christianity and customs could coexist, while others praised his integrity and sense of cultural pride.

As usual, Igboho’s remarks have spurred yet another discussion concerning Nigerian religious and cultural practices.
