A Nigerian woman has sparked debate online after expressing her strong feelings regarding long-distance marriages.
In a video that went viral on X (previously Twitter), the lady frankly revealed that she can’t stay faithful in a relationship where her partner travels abroad and leaves her alone in Nigeria for a long period.
According to her, such agreements are unrealistic for her because the distance and time apart make it impossible to stay committed.
In her words, read what she said below:
“Why will a man leave his wife in Nigeria for 4 years? Even 6 months sef, I go move on. If you leave me as a man in Nigeria, just forget it.”
She went on to say that this mentality is why she avoids getting acquainted with men who live abroad, unless there is a clear plan for both partners to migrate together after marriage.
“That’s why I’ve been declining abroad men. Unless we are going together, I can’t do it. Someone said her husband has been outside for 8 years, and they’ve only seen four times. I can never do that. God forbid,” she added.
Her statement elicited a varied response from social media users, with many offering their perspectives on the realities of long-distance relationships.
One user wrote, “Long distance no be for everybody. At least she’s honest.” Another added, “I agree… temptation too much these days.”
While some supported her position, others contended that successful long-distance marriages necessitate discipline, trust, and open communication.
