A Nigerian woman has generated outrage online after questioning why some men become unhappy when she requests for financial support in a relationship.
In a viral video published on X (previously Twitter) by @dammiedammie35, she stated that many men first chose a woman based on her looks, so why is it improper for a woman to seek financial support?
“I just want to pose a question to you guys. When you see a lady and you’re like, oh my God, she’s so beautiful, and you wouldn’t have asked her out if she wasn’t beautiful, why are you now angry that the person is coming to you for money?” she asked.
The conversation focuses on what she saw as a prevalent double standard.
According to her, males frequently pursue women based on physical attraction, but are outraged when women request security or financial assistance in exchange.
She also emphasised that desire alone cannot sustain a relationship, and that setting clear expectations should not be considered a crime.
“You see a beautiful lady, she’s well endowed, then why you angry when she comes for financial gain, when you know you only ask her out because you’re beautiful?” she added.
Her statements have sparked debate online, with social media users expressing varying perspectives.
One user commented, “She actually has a point. Men come for beauty, women come for stability. Let’s stop pretending.” Another wrote, “If money is the only thing keeping a relationship, then it’s not love.”
