A Nigerian man has sparked widespread reactions on social media after sharing his views on infidelity in marriage, admitting that he would end his marriage if his wife ch3ated on him but would expect forgiveness if he were the one who was unfaithful.
Speaking in a video circulating on X (formerly Twitter), the man described a wife’s infidelity as a complete deal breaker, insisting there would be no room for reconciliation if such a situation occurred in his marriage.
However, he said that if he ch3ated on his wife, he would plead for forgiveness and expect her to forgive him because he believes she is kind-hearted.
In his words:
“For me, if my wife cheats on me, that is the end. That is the deal breaker. I cannot negotiate it. But if I ch3at, I will beg for forgiveness. I believe strongly that she is kind-hearted and that she will forgive me.
“Traditionally in Africa, men are ascribed to be polygamous. Therefore, we can be in a marriage or relationship and still have extramarital affairs or cheat on our partner and get away with it. But we men do not want the women we see as our shrine to cheat.”
His remarks have since ignited debate online, with many social media users criticizing what they described as a double standard, while others argued that his comments reflect beliefs still held by some people regarding gender roles and marriage.
