Activist Verydarkman has explained why he initially chose not to comment on a viral video showing youths in Benue State reportedly chasing NDC presidential candidate Peter Obi away during a campaign visit.

According to Verydarkman, he initially felt “very happy” after seeing the youths mobilise against Obi. However, he later expressed disappointment over the large turnout, arguing that the same level of mobilisation could have been directed toward confronting the security challenges facing the state.

Verydarkman questions youths’ mobilisation

In a video addressing the issue, Verydarkman sarcastically suggested that the ability of the youths to mobilise in large numbers could prove useful in confronting bandits.

His words …

“Someone commented on my post yesterday and said Peter Obi was chased out of Benue by Benue state youth and I seem to not say anything about it. First things first I saw the video where Peter Obi went to Benue state to campaign and a large crowd of youths mobilised themselves and chased Peter Obi away.

I was very happy that Peter Obi was chased away. I am very happy the were able to do that. At least now we know that they can come out in numbers to chase people out. So that tomorrow now when bandit attack we get squad wey Sabi chase people.

I saw that thing and I was really really disappointed in Benue state youths. That crowd that came out. It was heartbreaking. After all they’ve gone through, they still let themselves to be used as political tools. That’s why I didn’t bother myself to speak because it is heartbreaking….”

Verydarkman said his disappointment stemmed from what he described as the youths allowing themselves to be used for political purposes despite the difficulties residents have faced.

Davido reacts to viral video

Meanwhile, Nigerian singer Davido also reacted to the viral footage by reposting it on Instagram.

The incident has generated further debate online, with social media users discussing the role of youths in political campaigns and the security challenges confronting Benue State.
