A Nigerian guy told the tale of a coworker whose wife allegedly threatened to divorce him after learning that he had covertly saved over ₦20 million for their move.

@prince_dc21_ shared the story on X, explaining that the man had withheld his pay rise from his family for three years.

The post claims that the man’s salary increased from ₦300,000 to ₦850,000 per month due to a promotion at work.

He allegedly decided not to tell his wife or any other member of his family, though.

“My colleague got a promotion at work, and his salary increased from #300k to #850k. But he didn’t tell anyone in his family, not even his wife,” 

According to reports, the man explained that throughout his first two years of work, he had been unable to save any money.

He allegedly stated that he was afraid his family would raise their demands for money when his coworkers questioned why he had kept the promotion and pay raise a secret.

“When we asked him why, he said for the two years he had been working, he hadn’t been able to save a dime.

“He said if his family found out about the promotion, they would only increase their billing, so he decided to keep quiet,” @prince_dc21_ wrote.

According to reports, the man saved the extra ₦550,000 per month while living as if he were still making ₦300,000.

The individual is said to have amassed around ₦20 million during the course of the three-year strategy.

“He continued living like he was still earning #300k and started saving the extra #550k every month.

“Three years later, he had saved over N20M,” the post stated.

After that, he reportedly started preparing to move overseas and eventually had his visa approved.

After his visa was granted, the man allegedly informed his wife about his plans to relocate, save money, and receive a pay rise.

She allegedly became enraged by the disclosure and threatened to dissolve their union.

According to reports, she told her husband that she had made sacrifices since she thought the family was still getting by on his purported monthly earnings of ₦300,000.

“She told him, ‘You’ve been lying to me for 3 years. I was making sacrifices and doing things I wasn’t supposed to do because I thought we were surviving on #300k,’” @prince_dc21_ wrote.

The man has reportedly been trying to explain that his decision was intended to secure their future and make relocation possible.

“The man has been trying to explain that everything he did was for their future and that he wanted to build something for both of them.

“But she doesn’t want to hear it Now the man has the #2OM, the visa and the plan to leave the country… But his marriage might not be going with him,” the post added.
