A shocking personal tale released online generated widespread outrage after a woman claimed her landlord employed spiritual practices in exchange for years of unpaid rent.
The narrator, Ella, explained how her landlord’s seeming compassion led to a terrifying and life-changing discovery involving her and other tenants.
Ella stated that she lived in an apartment with other housemates under the supervision of a landlord named Baba Awani, who appeared to be extraordinarily generous.
The landlord did not collect rent for five years, despite the tenants’ persistent attempts to do so.
According to Ella, Baba Awani usually smiled and requested her to save the money, citing the difficult economy.
He instead asked for tiny items such as schnapps and kola nuts, stating they were for prayers.
The tenants admired him and dubbed him “God’s envoy,” believing that they were fortunate to have such a landlord.
Ella claimed that shortly after the rent stopped, their lives began to deteriorate in alarming ways.
She and her housemates lost their bank jobs and struggled to find new ones. Her fiancé later left her, while other renters experienced broken relationships, death, or unexpected relocation.
