A Nigerian man has sparked reactions online after tearing his university degree certificate, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate and O’level result, expressing frustration over his educational journey.
In a video shared on X (formerly Twitter), the man displayed the documents before tearing them apart. He identified his Bachelor of Science (BSc) certificate as a second-class upper degree in psychology and described the documents as his original copies.
Expressing his disappointment, the man declared that he no longer wanted to be a graduate, claiming that his education had not delivered the benefits he expected.
“I want to be an illiterate. I don’t want to be a graduate again. I regret going to school; it didn’t help me. See, this is my certificate.
Here is my BSc, this is a second-class upper in BSc in psychology. My NYSC certificate, O’level, these are the original copies. I am tearing them. I don tear am finish,” he lamented.
The video has triggered discussions about the frustrations some Nigerian graduates experience when their academic qualifications fail to translate into the employment opportunities, financial stability or career progress they had hoped for.
His actions have also drawn attention to broader concerns about the value of education and the challenges many graduates face while trying to establish themselves after leaving school.
