“I killed her over her refusal to bathe me,” says man accused of killing his mother

A tragic occurrence has occurred in Ebonyi State, where a 30-year-old man has been charged with allegedly killing his elderly mother under suspicious circumstances.

The suspect, Ofobuike Damian, was taken before Magistrates’ Court 2 in Abakaliki on a murder accusation, according to Peoples Gazette.

The case has since gained media attention due to the odd justification offered for the crime.

Disturbing details emerge in court
According to the prosecution, led by Senior State Counsel David Njoku, the event occurred on March 19 in the Ohatekwe community in Ukawu, Ebonyi State’s Onicha Local Government Area.

Njoku told the court that the defendant reportedly attacked his mother, Onyema Damian, in the back with a knife, causing her death.

He stated that the offence is punishable under Section 319 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ebonyi State 2009.

In an unexpected turn of events, Damian, who had no legal assistance, pleaded guilty to the accusation. While addressing the court, he stated that the deed was motivated by his mother’s refusal to bathe him.

“I don’t know what really happened, but I can remember that I killed her over her refusal to bathe me,” he said.

Presiding Chief Magistrate Chinedu Agama found that the court lacked the authority to try a murder case.

He then ordered that the defendant be held in a correctional facility.

The court further ordered that the case file and related materials be sent to the Department of Public Prosecutions for additional legal guidance.

The case was postponed until April 9 for consideration while officials investigate the circumstances behind the terrible event.
