A Nigerian man who worked at Shell in 2012 has disclosed his yearly salary.

The man said that he made $120,000 a year in a now-viral post on X (formerly Twitter).

However, following multiple promotions, he received twice his income in 2022.

In the meantime, he came across a private internal document that displayed the wages of his superiors and learned that the highest amount he could be paid annually was $480,000.

“I saw that even if I were promoted multiple times again, the best I could hope for in another 10 years was another doubling to around $480K a year..I simply didn’t want the next 10 years to be a repeat of the last 10″,

The man who goes by @AskMichaelTaiwo on X claims that he secretly wanted to sever relations with Shell on his 40th birthday, and that wish was fulfilled.

In the meantime, his company made $500K in 2024 and grew exponentially to $1 million the next year.

‎”It required me to be delusional about my abilities, to bank on the faithfulness of God and to trust that inner voice that always nag at me that I could be more, I could do more and I could have more“, He added.
