A Nigerian woman has revealed how vulnerable women might become prey of suspected exploitation by sharing a frightening description of the drastic methods she contemplated while frantically looking for a child.
The woman, whose heartfelt tale is making the rounds on the internet, claimed that years of trying to conceive exposed her to what she called a “very dark world” full of people who offered dubious solutions to desperate women.
She claimed that persons claiming to know spiritual leaders, prayer houses, and other people with solutions easily targeted her because her battle with childlessness was well-known among family members and acquaintances.
“I wanted a child so badly that I accidentally discovered a world, a very dark world in Nigeria,” she said.
“When women are desperate to have babies, there are people who are willing to take advantage of that. I know this because I was one of those desperate women.”
She clarified that practically everyone in her immediate vicinity appeared to have a suggestion.
Some recommended pastors who had purportedly assisted ladies in becoming pregnant, while others brought up enigmatic locations where individuals were said to experience miracles following specific rites.
She claimed that at one point, she started to wonder if she was making enough progress in her quest for a child.
She eventually reached out to a preacher in Abuja as a result of her desperation, and the pastor allegedly told her that “marine spirits” were to blame for her infertility.
The woman said that after submitting money to the pastor, she was told to execute an odd midnight ceremony and go on a dry fast.
She claims that at midnight, she was instructed to collect a sleeping snail, massage it around her nude body, and pray outside without clothing.
She phoned the person who had connected her to the pastor after being initially taken aback by the directive.
The woman apparently informed her that previous women had stripped naked at the pastor’s altar in search of children, instead of discouraging her.
She eventually carried out a portion of the ceremony because she felt under pressure and thought she might not be sincere enough about her search.
She claimed that following her fast, she followed the directions and purchased a snail that had a white film covering its aperture.

“I felt so stupid,” she recalled, adding that she stopped the practice after that day.
The woman claimed that her experience made her aware of other women going through comparable difficulties, some of whom told even more unsettling tales.
She remembered meeting a woman who stated that before she could reportedly become pregnant, a preacher had told her to come to his church to fast and then perform a nudity ceremony.
The narrator claimed that she learned a valuable lesson about vulnerability from these encounters.
“Desperation is a very dangerous place to be because people know exactly how vulnerable you are and they can use that vulnerability against you,” she said.
