“I did not initiate any transaction” – Lady cries out after ₦196,000 vanishes from her OPay account

A Nigerian woman stated that ₦196,000 was deducted from her OPay account without her authorisation.

Oga Yenne reported the story on Facebook, where she described the woman’s ordeal and efforts to reclaim the money.

The woman reported receiving an unexpected OTP request on her phone at 8:00 a.m., which prompted her to become suspicious.

She stated that she instantly turned off her phone because she had not started a transaction.

“Yesterday, at about 8:00 a.m., I received a notification on my phone requesting that I input an OTP sent to my number to complete a transaction. I immediately became worried because I had not initiated any transaction.”

However, she stated that after turning her phone back on, it went through an initialisation process before notifying her that the transaction was complete.

She said that ₦196,000 was debited from her OPay account.

The woman stated that she called OPay customer service but was unsatisfied with their response.

She went to an OPay office to file an official complaint.

According to her, she was informed that the funds had been transferred to the account of Esther Okeogene Benson.

She claimed she phoned Esther and asked her to repay the monies, but Esther allegedly denied having an OPay account.

The lady stated that Esther later provided a different explanation when she contacted her again.

Esther stated that money was being moved into and out of her account without her knowledge.

“Funds are being transferred in and out of her account and she doesn’t have any idea how that is going on.”

The lady is perplexed about how the transaction was executed, despite her claim that she neither initiated nor authorised it.
