“I can’t submit to this…” – Lady calls off her wedding after being asked to undergo ‘purity test’

A young lady has ignited internet debate after disclosing why she is considering cancelling her wedding only weeks before the big day.

The post, shared on Facebook by Awesome Family, describes her amazement at finding a horrible “family tradition” that her fiancé expects her to follow before marriage.

According to her, everything was going well, with preparations already in place and excitement rising for the event.

However, things changed drastically during a talk with her fiancé regarding their future. What she assumed was a joke turned out to be a real expectation.

She added that her fiancé told her of a family ritual in which his father is supposed to physically “verify” her purity on the night before the wedding, with other male relatives in attendance.

The news startled her and made her quite uncomfortable, as she questioned the idea of being subjected to such an act in the name of tradition.

 Readc her words below:

“I’m sitting here staring at my wedding dress, and for the first time in months, I don’t feel like a bride. I feel like a stranger in my own life. My wedding is exactly two weeks away… my heart was so full until last night.

…He looked me in the eyes and told me that the night before the wedding, his father… has to physically ‘verify’ my purity… My fiancé and other male relatives are expected to be there to witness it.

…I asked him, ‘Are you hearing yourself? You want me to be humiliated like that?’… He said it’s a mark of honor… and that if I truly loved him, I would ‘submit’ to this one final hurdle… a ‘small sacrifice’.

…Now, the ‘perfect’ man is at my door… begging and crying… but is this really a ‘small thing’? How can everything be ‘perfect’ if my dignity is the price…?

…If I say yes, I lose myself. If I say no, I might lose the man I love. What should I do? Is this a tradition worth keeping, or is this a red flag I can’t ignore?”

The tale elicited significant emotions online, with many denouncing the purported custom and asking the woman to prioritise her dignity and safety.
