“I cannot pay for what I did not eat” – POS lady cries out as police detain her over transfer from 8 months ago

A Nigerian POS operator has cried out for help after she was allegedly asked to refund ₦60,000 to a man who claimed he mistakenly sent the money to her account eight months ago.

In a Facebook post, the woman explained that she runs two POS stands in Oluku, Edo State, with a worker managing one of them.

Recounting the incident, she said a community security officer (CSO) sent some men to arrest her worker, who then led them to her.

She said the men asked her to follow them to their office, where she met the CSO, a woman, and her boyfriend, who allegedly claimed to have made the mistaken transfer.

According to the POS operator, the man claimed he went to Ekosodin on February 12, 2026, to eat at a food vendor’s place.

He allegedly said that after eating, he asked for an account number and was directed to transfer the money to a nearby POS operator’s account.

The man reportedly claimed that he later went to Ring Road to buy some items and mistakenly transferred ₦60,000 to that same account.

The POS operator said the man claimed he returned to the food vendor the next day, but the woman allegedly denied giving him the account number.

She added that he claimed to have visited a Moniepoint office and reported the incident to his bank, OPay, while trying to trace the account holder.

The man allegedly said he eventually identified the account when he visited the POS stand to make a withdrawal and recognised it as the account he had mistakenly transferred the money to.

The woman said she checked her POS machine’s transaction history for the date in question and found a ₦60,000 transaction linked to the man’s OPay number.

However, she claimed she could not find any record showing that the money was transferred from her account to another account.

She also checked for the alleged transaction the man said he made at the food vendor’s place but could not find it in her POS records.

The operator maintained that she did not have a POS stand in Ekosodin, explaining that all her business locations were in Oluku.

She further said the worker who managed the business at the time had since left and had never reported receiving excess money from the business.

The woman suggested that the transaction could have been made by a walk-in customer who transferred money to her account and collected cash in return, as was common in her business.

The POS operator said the CSO asked her to produce her February record book, but she explained that she no longer had it.

She claimed that a policewoman told her she would have to refund the money because she could not produce the record book and the transaction appeared in her POS records.

Appealing to fellow POS operators and Moniepoint representatives for help, the woman insisted that she did not knowingly receive or spend the money in question.

Immediately I left what I was doing and went to their office

On getting there i met a lady and his boyfriend.

The CSO told me that the guy said he went to Ekosodin in the morning February 12 2026 to eat after eating he asked for account number and they asked the pos boy close to them to give him his pos account number then he transferred money to it

Then in the evening he went to ringroad to buy things then the person called account number for him but he mistakenly transferred 60000 (Sixty Thousand Naira) to my account

According to him he said he went back to the place the following day but the woman denied he did not give him that account  he also said he went to Moniepoint office that moniepoint said they will contact me  he also said he reported to his bank OPAY According to him he said d app count and stoped

So he said since he has being looking for the owner of the account number.

He said he came to withdraw from my boy today and found out it’s that same account number he mistakenly transferred to 8months ago.

I check my POS machine for that date and I found one transaction of 60000 with the guy opay number and I did not see where they transferred it back to another account.

I also asked him how much he transferred to my account to the food woman he said 2000+ that he could not remember the exact amouth.

So I checked with my POS for that transaction he did in the morning with that same account number but i did not see any transaction.

Now the CSO is asking me to refund the money to him

I told them I cannot refund the money to them because,

I did not have a POS stand In Ekosodin, all my POS stand is in Oluku

I told them my worker that is working with me then has stopped, and there was no day she gave me excess money,

I also told them it could be a walk in customer that did transfer and my worker gave the person cash because that is how over business work.

Now they are asking me to bring my February record book

I told them I don’t have it again, the police woman said since I don’t have any record book and the transaction is in my pos that I should pay
