“I brought my wife to the UK, so I’m in charge of…” – Abroad-based man sparks outrage after calling marriage an investment

A Nigerian man living overseas has stirred up controversy on the internet by calling moving his wife from Nigeria to the UK the “craziest thing” he has ever done out of love.

The man clarified that relocating his wife overseas was both expensive and risky, particularly in light of reports of marriages failing following migration.

In his words, read what he said below:

“The craziest thing I have done for love is bringing my wife from Nigeria to the UK. Do you think it’s easy? Do you know how much I spent?

It’s an investment, spending a lot of money to catapult her here. It is a risk because a lot of them, when they come here, just kick their husbands out of the house.”

He added that her composed demeanour and disposition were what persuaded him to go with the choice.

He implied that financial control was a component of their agreement when he added that she recognises he is the guardian of the finances and should continue to be in charge.

Since then, his comments have generated contentious discussions on the internet, with many people challenging the idea of power in a partnership and condemning the idea of characterising marriage as a “investment.”

Some maintained that marriage should be based on respect and cooperation rather than ownership, while others countered that moving a spouse overseas can be unsafe and expensive.
