A woman has sparked outrage online after sharing a difficult childhood event in which she claims her father disregarded her hunger and instead purchased a supper for the family’s dog.
According to the woman, the incident occurred when she was a child and begged her father for food since she was hungry that morning.
Instead of feeding her, she claimed he responded in a way she would never forget.
She claimed her father later purchased rice and beef from a mobile food vendor before returning home and laying the meal on the ground for the family’s dog after reporting it in.
The woman said, “No be only rice you go chop, na beans you go chop.”
She stated that moments later, her father returned with the food, whistled for the family pet, and watched as it dashed over to eat it.
Later, she stated, “A few minutes later, Hero, our family dog came running to eat the plate of rice with beef. And I stood there watching and asking myself ‘am I really my father’s child’.”
The poignant narrative has elicited strong comments on social media, with many users expressing sympathy for the woman and characterising the event as terrible.
Others related similar childhood stories, while some reminded parents to be conscious of how their acts and words can leave lifelong mental scars on children.
The anecdote has sparked more discussion online, with many seeing it as a reminder of the long-term impact of childhood experiences on mental well-being.
