“I am Not in This Coalition to Grab Power, I am Here Because I Want to Make Nigeria Work – Peter Obi

According to a report by Nigerian Tribune on Sunday, December 28, 2025, former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi, has rejected claims suggesting that he is a newcomer to the African Democratic Party, stating clearly that he is a legitimate and long-standing member of the coalition party.

He explained that assertions questioning his membership do not reflect the facts of his political involvement.

Obi maintained that his relationship with the party predates recent political developments and should not be misrepresented as a recent move driven by convenience.

He made this clarification during an interactive X Space session with Nigerians on Sunday, where he responded to questions on his political activities and current alignments.

The session provided an opportunity for him to address concerns raised by critics and supporters alike regarding his role within the African Democratic Party.

Obi used the platform to restate his political history and clarify misunderstandings surrounding his participation in the coalition.

According to him, his involvement with the African Democratic Party dates back to its early stages, and he has remained engaged with the party’s activities over the years.

He explained that he has contributed to the party’s growth through visible support and participation, contrary to claims that he only recently became associated with it.

His explanation was aimed at correcting public narratives that suggest he lacks roots or influence within the party structure.

The former Anambra State governor also highlighted specific instances of his active support for the party.

He referenced his public campaign efforts and endorsement of Dr Mo during the Abuja Municipal Area Council chairmanship race in the Federal Capital Territory.

He noted that this involvement demonstrated his commitment to the party beyond words, showing practical engagement during key political moments.

He said, “I am not in this coalition to grab power. I am here because I want to make Nigeria work.”
