Abayomi Arabambi, National Vice Chairman (Southwest) of the Labour Party, has accused former presidential candidate Peter Obi of failing to formally resign from the party despite publicly announcing his intention to join a political coalition.
In an interview on Arise TV, Arabambi contrasted Obi’s approach with how other prominent politicians have handled their party exits.
“He (Peter Obi) has not tendered a resignation up to today,” Arabambi stated. “The governor of Kano State has resigned. Everybody saw it. Former Rivers State governor, Rotimi Amaechi resigned publicly. Alhaji Atiku Abubakar also resigned and joined ADC.”
The LP chieftain emphasized that Obi’s situation differs significantly from these examples.
“It is only Peter Obi that said he is joining a coalition,” he said. “There is no party called coalition in Nigeria. We have ADC, he should tender his resignation letter and move.”
Arabambi accused Obi of maintaining dual loyalties rather than making a clean break from the Labour Party.
“He has two legs— One here and one there,” he alleged.
The Southwest LP chairman suggested that Obi’s actions reveal a strategic motive rather than genuine intention to leave the party.
“We know Obi antecedents, he has not left Labour,” Arabambi claimed. “He was only using Governor Otti as a bait to think they can manufacture some power to strangle Labor Party.”
His comments highlight internal tensions within the Labour Party regarding Obi’s political moves and questions about his continued membership status.
