“How can a man look at you and say ₦40,000 is what you deserve monthly?” – Lady laments

"How can a man look at you and say ₦40,000 is what you deserve monthly?” - Lady laments

When a Nigerian woman questioned why some men give their partners what she described as a very low monthly allowance, she caused a stir on social media.

She expressed shock that a man could look at a woman and decide that ₦40,000 is enough to cover her monthly needs in a widely shared video on X, especially in light of Nigeria’s current economic situation.

In her words, she said:

“How can a man look you finish and decide it is ₦40k you deserve as your monthly allowance? What can ₦40k buy in this market?”

She continued by saying that some women’s relationship positions can sometimes encourage such circumstances.

According to her, constantly downplaying personal needs in the name of being “understanding” can later result in financial neglect.

“Na una go marry husband tomorrow and start telling the man, ‘I don’t like to make my hair, weavons are too expensive, let’s save money.’ Na you cause am,” she added.

Her comments quickly divided social media users.

While some women agreed that ₦40,000 is insulting in today’s economy, others argued that allowances should be based on a man’s capacity and mutual understanding, not pressure.

Reacting, one commentator wrote, “40k no even reach groceries for two weeks 😭.” Another countered, “Allowance is not compulsory. Relationship no be salary work.”
