Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, an Islamic cleric, has advised Nigerians to try to live in harmony with herders, cautioning that making them enemies might make the nation’s security issues worse.
He revealed this in a video that is presently circulating on different social media sites.
According to Gumi, herdsmen should be viewed as neighbours rather than enemies as they are an essential component of Nigerian civilisation.
He warned that “real enemies” might take advantage of their animosity to further undermine communities.
The cleric says that unresolved conflicts between communities and herders run the risk of being exploited by internal or external forces that enjoy war.
He underlined that eliminating instability and preserving national unity depend on learning to coexist harmoniously.

“Herdsmen are going nowhere. They are part of us, and we are part of them. We must learn to live together. They’re our neighbours so we should never allow them be our enemies and if by any mistake by our actions we turn them into enemies then we’re finished. Because our real enemies will use them against us. Because your real enemies will use your neighbours against you.”
