Iyabo Ojo has explained why she made sure her ex-husband, Ademidun Ojo, was present at their daughter Priscilla Ojo’s wedding, stating that she didn’t want their previous disagreements to have an impact on their kids’ lives.

The Nollywood actress revealed at an appearance that she purposefully put aside personal concerns to make sure her daughter had the support of both parents on one of the most significant days of her life.

Iyabo, who wed Ademidun Ojo in 1999 before their marriage ended in 2001, stated that the decision was influenced by her own family history and that she was committed to ending harmful generational traditions for her offspring.

Responding to questions about the wedding, the actress said, “I don’t know, there’s something called ancestral curses. And we Africans believe in it. Christians also. I believe that if you do not want something to continue, you have to be able to break it. So I made up my mind that whatever situation had happened, because my dad and my mum were also not together, every mistake they had made that I have made, my children will not make it”

She further emphasised that, despite their divorce, her ex-husband was still their daughter’s father and should be included in the milestone.

The actress said, “Her father is not dead. He’s alive. So why can’t he be there? He didn’t wrong her. Me and him fell out. It has nothing to do with her”

In 2025, Priscilla Ojo wed Tanzanian singer Juma Jux in an opulent series of wedding celebrations in Nigeria and Tanzania that drew officials and celebrities from all over Africa.

Since then, Priscilla has continued to publish updates on parenting and her postpartum experience on social media, and the couple delivered their first child, a son called Rakeem Ayomide Mkambala.

Iyabo Ojo’s recent remarks have sparked new online debates, with many social media users applauding her choice to put her daughter’s happiness first and keep a positive co-parenting relationship in spite of her marriage’s breakup.
