A Nigerian land agent allegedly pocketed ₦2 million from a property transaction that his elder brother, who is based in China, had tried to keep secret from him.
The elder brother had reportedly reached out to a different agent to buy land in Nigeria, deliberately cutting out his younger brother.
However, the younger brother, who is also in the land business, got wind of the deal through a close friend who had been asked to help facilitate it.
What the elder brother did not know was that the land in question was still in his younger brother’s care, which gave the younger sibling leverage over the deal despite being excluded at the start.
Reports say the elder brother sidelined him because he did not want him to find out about the purchase, a move linked to a fallout months earlier when the younger brother asked him for financial help and was turned down.
After learning about the transaction from his friend, the younger brother allegedly told the agent handling it to inflate the asking price by an extra ₦4 million.
Once the sale went through, he was said to have received ₦2 million from it without directly managing the deal.
The episode shows how money disputes can strain family ties, especially when personal relationships and business interests collide.
It also raises concerns about trust, openness, and where to draw the line between family loyalty and business.
It remains unclear whether the elder brother later found out about his younger brother’s role, but the younger sibling still ended up profiting ₦2 million from a deal he was meant to be kept out of.
The story is a striking illustration of how personal grievances can unexpectedly spill into business opportunities.
