A Nigerian man has sparked outrage online after detailing how his close buddy was publically rejected during a surprise proposal, only to find out she had been in another relationship for years.

The incident, which was shared on X, now known as Twitter, reignited discussions about trust, commitment, and double dating in modern partnerships.

According to the man, the incident occurred in 2015, after his friend had dated a woman for five years.

In a spectacular romantic gesture, he flew her from Abuja to Lagos to celebrate his birthday. Friends packed the house.

The cameras were set. The mood was joyous and hopeful. Then came the defining moment.

Guests were shocked as the meticulously orchestrated proposal disintegrated in seconds. Two weeks later, the woman apparently married another man.

She blacklisted his friend across all platforms and entirely cut off communication. The agonising rejection was only part of the story.

Mutual friends allegedly found that she had been dating another man in Abuja for roughly two years while remaining in a five-year relationship.

Despite the humiliation, the man said his friend eventually found clarity. “At first, he was shattered,” he wrote.

But with time came a new perspective. “Rejection is protection.” He added, “A ‘yes’ from someone unsure can ruin your life.”
