“He never sold his ancestral land to sponsor me” – Kenyan woman breaks silence after ex-boyfriend’s allegations

A Kenyan woman, Chia Joan, has broken her silence after her estranged boyfriend, Kiptoo, accused her of ending their relationship after he allegedly financed her relocation to the United Kingdom.

The controversy gained attention on social media after Kiptoo took to Facebook to lament the alleged breakup, claiming that he had sold his ancestral land to sponsor Joan’s relocation abroad.

However, Joan has disputed his account, offering a different version of events in a lengthy Facebook post on Thursday, October 15, 2026.

Contrary to some initial social media reports, the pair were not married.

In her post, Joan dismissed the allegation that Kiptoo sold his ancestral land to finance her studies and relocation to the UK, describing the claim as a lie.

She revealed that their relationship began on February 2, 2026, but alleged that they experienced several disagreements during their time together.

According to Joan, their relationship was marked by behaviour that repeatedly left her hurt and uncomfortable.

Joan claimed that Kiptoo sometimes sent her view-once photographs showing himself in bed with other women.

She also alleged that whenever they had disagreements, he would post affectionate messages and pictures involving his child’s mother and their child on social media.

Joan said the alleged behaviour caused her emotional distress but maintained that she remained in the relationship partly because she was threatened whenever she attempted to leave.

These allegations form part of Joan’s account of the relationship and have not been independently verified.

Joan further explained that the relationship reached a turning point on September 21, when they had a disagreement that they were unable to resolve despite their efforts.

According to her, Kiptoo’s parents subsequently asked him whether he intended to continue the relationship, and he reportedly answered in the negative.

She said his response prompted her to gather her belongings and leave his house.

Joan also disclosed that she received her UK visa later that same night, despite the fact that she and Kiptoo had blocked each other following their disagreement.

Her account challenges the narrative that she ended the relationship after benefiting from her boyfriend’s alleged financial sacrifices.

The dispute has generated discussion online about relationships, financial support, trust and the circumstances surrounding breakups.

While Kiptoo has alleged that he sold his ancestral land to support Joan’s relocation, she has denied that claim. The competing accounts have not been independently verified.
