Antoine Griezmann will join Orlando City at the end of the European season after agreeing to leave Atletico Madrid.
The Major League Soccer club announced the arrangement, with the 34-year-old signing a two-year contract and starting a new chapter in the United States this summer.
The deal was agreed upon, but the transfer was delayed.
Griezmann had been linked with a move for several weeks before travelling to the United States to seal the deal.
However, his desire to complete the season strongly with Atletico, including their Copa del Rey campaign, slowed the transfer.
Despite the fact that the MLS primary transfer window has closed, the forward’s move will be formally completed once the European season closes.
“I am very excited to begin this next chapter of my career with Orlando City,” Griezmann said.
“From my first conversations with the club, I could feel a strong ambition and a clear vision for the future.”
Griezmann also confirmed his commitment to Atletico for the rest of the season, sending a farewell letter to fans.
“My present will remain red and white until the very last breath of this 2026 season. And my heart will be forever,” he said.
The Frenchman departs as Atletico’s all-time leading scorer, leaving a legacy that includes numerous individual honours and a crucial role in the club’s recent success.
Orlando seeks revival
Orlando City sees the deal as a significant boost as they attempt to improve on their sluggish start to the MLS season.
Ricardo Moreira, the club’s sporting director, lauded the forward as a revolutionary arrival.
“Antoine is a complete footballer – creative, intelligent, clinical – and he is a proven winner on the biggest stages of the game,” he said.
Griezmann is anticipated to play a key role in Orlando’s push to climb the standings, having previously achieved international success with France.
