“For two years, this man was converting naira to pounds without complaining” — Nigerian nurse celebrates husband who sponsored wife’s UK Master’s degree

A Nigerian male nurse has praised a husband for supporting his wife’s education and nursing career by reportedly sponsoring her Master’s degree in the United Kingdom.

The nurse, identified as @Nursebassey_ on X, formerly Twitter, shared the story after coming across a Nigerian registered nurse who spoke about how her husband supported her studies abroad.

According to him, the husband spent about two years converting naira to pounds to cover the financial demands of his wife’s education.

“I saw a Nigerian registered nurse talking about how her husband sponsored her Master’s in Nursing in the UK,” he wrote.

He added:

“For two years, this man was converting naira to pounds without complaining.”

Husband travelled to UK to support family

The nurse further revealed that the man travelled from Nigeria to the UK to help care for their children while his wife completed her clinical placement.

“He even travelled from Nigeria to the UK to help his wife take care of the kids while she was on clinical placement,” he stated.

According to @Nursebassey_, the husband’s support continued throughout the woman’s academic journey until she completed her programme and qualified as a registered nurse.

‘Today, she’s a registered nurse’

The nurse noted that the woman is now a registered nurse and has publicly appreciated her husband for the sacrifices and support he provided throughout her studies.

“Today, she’s a registered nurse and proudly giving her husband his flowers,” he wrote.

Reflecting on the story, @Nursebassey_ observed that successful marriages often receive less attention online than relationships experiencing difficulties.

“Omo many marriages are actually thriving. Na the bad ones dey get the most PR,” he added.

The story has sparked positive reactions online, with many people highlighting the importance of mutual support, sacrifice and partnership in marriage, particularly when one spouse is pursuing education or career advancement abroad.
