According to Premium Times, Human rights lawyer and public affairs analyst, Dele Farotimi, has raised concerns over the reported abduction of six Islamic clerics in Zamfara State following a prayer gathering organised in support of President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid.
Farotimi, in a social media post, said the clerics were kidnapped after attending a special prayer session organised by Senator Abdul’aziz Yari, Director-General of the Tinubu 2027 Presidential Campaign Council. He alleged that the abductors, whom he described as Fulani terrorists, were demanding ₦30 million for each of the clerics.
However, security authorities have given a different account of the circumstances surrounding the abduction. The Zamfara State Police Command confirmed that six imams were abducted after armed men intercepted their vehicle along the Dakko–Damri feeder road in Bakura Local Government Area.
The Nigerian Army subsequently said intelligence indicated that the victims were abducted while travelling from the Sububu forest axis towards Talata Mafara, stressing that the abduction did not occur at Yari’s residence.
Farotimi, while reacting to the development, concluded his post with a reference to controversial Islamic cleric Ahmad Gumi, saying, “A job for Gumi.” Meanwhile, reports have emerged that the abductors demanded ₦30 million for the release of the six clerics, although security agencies have continued efforts to secure their release.
