Arsenal reclaimed control of the Premier League title race with a dominant 4-1 victory over Tottenham in the north London derby, regaining their five-point advantage at the top of the table.
The result came amid rising criticism following a midweek defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers, while Manchester City had closed the gap with a win against Newcastle United.
Against this backdrop, Arsenal produced a standout effort led by Eberechi Eze and Viktor Gyokeres.
Eze scored the goal in the 32nd minute with a close-range strike after relentless Tottenham pressure.
It was a pivotal moment in a game with added drama, given his near move to Spurs before sealing a £60 million transfer from Crystal Palace to Arsenal in August.
Tottenham reacted promptly through Randal Kolo Muani, who equalised two minutes later with an individual effort.
However, Arsenal took control shortly after the break when Gyokeres scored from 20 yards, restoring the visitors’ lead with a superb right-footed finish.
With Tottenham chasing the game under temporary manager Igor Tudor, Arsenal remained composed rather than fleeing.
Gyokeres scored a fourth in stoppage time, dominating Archie Grey and finishing decisively to complete his brace.
The Swedish forward’s double was a timely answer to recent criticism, while Eze’s performance represented a remarkable return to form.
Prior to the derby, he had only started four of Arsenal’s previous 15 league games despite appearing frequently.
Eze delivered when Arsenal needed a little more clarity on their title stance under England head coach Thomas Tuchel’s guidance.
