The Edo State Government has directed the reopening of schools that were earlier shut due to security concerns. The schools had been closed on June 9, 2026, after intelligence reports indicated possible threats in parts of the Edo North Senatorial District.

In a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Mrs Enodolomwanyi Otamere, the government instructed the affected schools to resume academic activities on June 15, 2026. She said the decision followed a full review of the security situation by the government in collaboration with security agencies and other stakeholders.

The statement also noted that additional security measures have been introduced and further safety arrangements have been deployed across the affected communities and schools to protect students, teachers, and staff.

It added that all public and private schools affected by the closure have been directed to resume normal academic and administrative activities from June 15.

School administrators and education authorities were asked to prepare for the safe return of students and staff, while working closely with security agencies, community leaders, and government officials to maintain a secure learning environment.

Parents and guardians were also urged to send their children back to school, with assurances that adequate safety measures are in place.
