Drama as man storms church with matchet, chases worshippers over noise disturbance
A man with a cutlass broke into a church during a nighttime vigil in Ibeku, Umuahia, Abia State, causing attendees to run for their lives.
A widely shared video on social media claims that the man unexpectedly showed up at the church as the congregation was fully immersed in praise and worship.
He was seen violently confronting churchgoers with a cutlass, accusing them of being disturbed by the vigil’s noise and telling them to leave.
Many worshippers fled for their lives as a result of the panic and uncertainty this produced.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the event. But the terrifying event left many attendees visibly rattled.
The incident has since sparked widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians condemning the man’s actions and calling for peaceful ways to resolve disputes.
Reacting to the video, some social media users stated that while residents have a right to peace and quiet, resorting to violence and wielding a weapon is unacceptable.
A commentator wrote, “This is traumatizing. Imagine going for night vigil and someone storms in with a weapon.” Another said, “Everyone deserves peace. Churches should be mindful of their noises too.”
