The condition of male hostel toilets in University of Nigeria, Nsukka has become a disturbing reflection of infrastructural neglect and poor sanitation culture in many Nigerian universities.
What should serve as basic facilities for hygiene and dignity have, over time, deteriorated into spaces students often describe as unfit for human use.
Reports and student accounts reveal that many of these toilets are clogged, poorly maintained, and overwhelmed by the sheer number of users.
Overcrowding in male hostels—where rooms designed for a few occupants now house far more—places enormous pressure on already insufficient sanitation facilities.
However, in some cases, thousands of students share limited toilets, making proper maintenance nearly impossible.
