Davido Replies Ex-Buhari’s Aide Who Asks Him How Many Grammy Awards He Won After 5 Nominations

Afrobeats superstar Davido has responded to former President Muhammadu Buhari’s aide, Bashir Ahmad, after the latter questioned him about the number of Grammy Awards he has won from five nominations.

The exchange followed a post by Ahmad on social media in which he appeared to draw a comparison between his political experience and Davido’s Grammy nominations.

Ahmad wrote: “We have talked enough about the number of votes I got in my primaries. Can we now talk about the number of Grammy Awards you have won from your five nominations, David? Fair is fair.”

Davido, in his response, rejected the suggestion that success should be measured solely by the number of awards won, highlighting his achievements in music and his international reach.

“You measure success by one award. I measure it by sold-out arenas, billions of streams, global influence, and people singing my songs across continents,” the singer stated.

Davido subsequently turned his attention to Ahmad’s political career, questioning his achievements despite having served under the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

“You had government backing and still couldn’t convince enough people to back you in your small constituency,” Davido said.

The singer further described Ahmad as “a small boy who came into politics by accident” and criticised what he described as his inability to transform his community during his years in government.

“You spent 8yrs with the ex president and couldn’t make a change in your poverty stricken community,” he added.

Davido concluded by saying that he and Ahmad had different definitions of achievement, insisting that his focus remained on inspiring younger generations through his music.

“We all have different trophies Bashir, I’ll keep inspiring the young ones and generations to come while you wait for the next government job to get crumbs,” he stated.

The exchange has generated reactions online, with social media users weighing in on the contrasting views of success, political achievement and recognition in the entertainment industry.

Davido has received multiple Grammy nominations over the course of his career, while Ahmad served as a media aide during Buhari’s administration.
