Shank Comics, a Nigerian skit maker and broadcaster, has sparked debate on social media after suggesting that comedians are wealthier than many musicians.
During a livestream, he claimed that the idea that musicians are wealthier is heavily affected by their flamboyant lifestyles and public displays of riches.
According to him, prominent comedians like Bovi Ugboma and Basketmouth are wealthier than Afrobeats artists like Asake, Wizkid, and Burna Boy.
Shank Comics claimed that, whereas singers frequently demonstrate luxurious cars and extravagant lifestyles, many comedians prioritise investments and wealth-building behind the scenes over public display.
“I think there is more money in comedy than music. Bovi and Basketmouth are far richer than Asake, Wizkid, Burna Boy, and other musicians, but they prefer to invest rather than buy cars.
“Comedians are very conscious of the future, so they invest more than they spend, and they don’t spend lavishly on luxuries.
“A lot of comedians can afford the luxurious automobiles Nigerian musicians are buying,” he said.
