As the team continues to restructure its roster in preparation for the 2026–2027 season, Chelsea has identified a group of players they believe are unavailable for transfer this summer.
Brazilian attacker Joao Pedro and academy graduate Josh Acheampong are among those considered “untouchable.” Cole Palmer, Reece James, Estevao Willian, Moises Caicedo, and Pedro Neto are further players that are thought to be crucial to the team’s long-term goals.
During his initial tenure at Stamford Bridge, former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho coined the term “untouchable.”
When Mourinho called a number of first-team players “untouchable” in December 2006 based more on their performances than their reputations, the term became well-known.
Because of the Ukrainian’s difficulties in front of goal at the time, he did not include striker Andriy Shevchenko in that category.
“Sheva is not untouchable because of the way he is playing. I play the best players at the time,” Mourinho said.

“It is not because I love them. It is because of the way they play. Michael Ballack is untouchable because of the way he plays. John Terry is untouchable, Ricardo Carvalho, Ashley Cole, Didier Drogba, they are untouchable.”
