The violent incident took place less than 24 hours before the state’s 203 ward congress.

According to eyewitnesses, the attackers, who were allegedly armed with cutlasses and other weapons, declared their allegiance to a faction led by Aiyedatiwa and threatened anyone who opposed them with death.

Several key party figures were assaulted during the attack. Three individuals, including state chairman Ade Adetimehin, Niger Delta Development Commission board member Otito Atikase, and former Sports Commissioner Saka Yusuf-Ogunleye, were reportedly beaten and taken to the hospital for treatment.

Adetimehin claimed that the attack was planned to disrupt the meeting, and that the assailants also took his phones, money, and wristwatch.
