Burna Boy, a Nigerian Afrobeats singer, has established a new record for the most monthly listeners an African artist has ever had on Spotify.
The Grammy-winning singer just exceeded the previous record of 46.58 million monthly listeners, which was held by South African sensation Tyla. Burna Boy currently has 47.3 million monthly listeners, making him the most-streamed African artist in Spotify ever.
His FIFA World Cup collaboration with Shakira, dubbed Dai Dai, has contributed significantly to his increased streaming numbers.Football
The track also peaked at No. 1 on Spotify’s Global Top Songs chart, making Burna Boy the first African artist to do so since Wizkid’s collaboration with Drake on One Dance in 2016.
With his current trajectory, Burna Boy is on track to become the first African artist to surpass 50 million monthly Spotify listeners.
