Bolt Driver Accused of Leaving With Passengers’ Property After Fare Disagreement in Abuja

A ride-hailing trip in Abuja reportedly ended in drama after a Bolt driver allegedly drove away with passengers’ belongings following a disagreement over payment.

The incident, said to have happened on Monday, May 25, involved a Nigerian lady and her friend who booked a Bolt ride within the city.

According to the passenger, the driver did not drop them at their exact destination, yet they still paid the full ₦5,000 fare shown on the Bolt app.

She explained that the misunderstanding began when the driver requested additional money outside the app charge, claiming there had been a prior agreement on a higher fare.

The passengers disagreed and insisted they would only pay the amount displayed on the app since the ride was not completed to the agreed stop.

The lady further alleged that the driver became upset during the argument and drove off while some of their belongings were still inside the vehicle.

Items said to be missing include cooked meals, raw food items, four buckets, and a fan cover.

The passengers said they later reported the incident to Bolt Nigeria, but were informed that the driver claimed he had not been paid for the trip despite the ₦5,000 cash payment.

They asked the company to intervene, recover their belongings, and investigate the driver’s conduct.

According to the lady, Bolt Nigeria later informed them that their items could be picked up at the company’s branch in Lagos, despite the incident taking place in Abuja.

Bolt Nigeria has not publicly commented on the allegation at the time of this report.
