Seeing my father break down in tears over my condition was heartbreaking – AmputeePeter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), said that if a father left his child N100 million but had an outstanding debt of N10 million, the child would not simply describe the inheritance as a debt.
According to a report by Daily Trust on Friday, September 25, 2026, Peter made the claim on Thursday while responding to questions during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time. He said that if your father left you N100 million and someone claimed he owed N10 million, it would be unfair to go to the market and say that he left you with debt.
Obi explained that even if there had been an outstanding debt, there would still have been enough resources to settle it while leaving the state of Anambra financially stable.
In his words, “Assuming your father left you N100 million and someone says he owed N10 million, will you go to the market and say he left you with debt? That would be unfair.
“Even if there was a debt, there was enough left to pay it, and the state (Anambra) would still be financially stable.”
