Governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have pledged to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid and deliver their respective states for him in the 2027 presidential election.
The governors reaffirmed their commitment during a meeting with Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Thursday.
Speaking with State House Correspondents after the meeting, Imo State Governor and Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF), Hope Uzodinma, said the governors would take leading roles in mobilising support and voters across their respective states.
According to Uzodinma, the meeting focused largely on governance and measures aimed at reducing the cost of living, improving food security, strengthening agriculture and lowering transportation costs.
He added that the discussions also centred on ensuring that Nigerians feel the impact of the Federal Government’s economic reforms.
On the 2027 presidential election, Uzodinma said Tinubu briefed the governors on the constitution of the Presidential Election Committee, adding that the governors were in agreement with the President on preparations for the election.
The PGF chairman said:
“All the APC governors are solidly behind Mr President. To that extent, governors are expected to deliver their states.”
Uzodinma Explains Governors’ Role
Uzodinma explained that each governor would assess the specific requirements for mounting a successful campaign in their respective states.
He said:
“The responsibility of delivering the elections lies on the shoulders of the governors at the subnational level.”
He further affirmed that the governors would work closely with the APC and its leaders throughout the campaign period.
Uzodinma maintained that the governors were united in their support for Tinubu’s re-election and would play leading roles in campaign and election-related activities across their states.
The pledge places APC governors at the centre of the party’s preparations for the 2027 presidential election, alongside efforts to address economic and welfare concerns at the state level.
