Ajax finalize Arokodare loan as Super Eagles striker seeks fresh start

Super Eagles striker Tolu Arokodare has been signed by Ajax on a season-long loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers, giving the Nigerian forward an opportunity to turn his career around following a disastrous stint in England.

At the conclusion of the 2026–2027 season, the Eredivisie team has also obtained an option to make the relocation permanent for €22 million plus performance-related add-ons.

Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano claims that Ajax will cover Arokodare’s whole salary while he is in Amsterdam in addition to paying Wolves a loan fee.

Additionally, if Ajax qualifies for European competition while the 25-year-old is with the team, Wolves will get an extra £500,000 under the terms of the agreement.

After Fiorentina’s interest subsided, Ajax moved swiftly to sign the striker, defeating rival teams Trabzonspor of Turkey and Genoa of Serie A.

As they aim for both domestic success and a return to Europe’s elite championships, the Dutch powerhouses think Arokodare’s physical presence, aerial prowess, and goal scoring history can bolster their assault.

After a challenging season with Wolves, where he made 38 appearances across all competitions and contributed two assists and six goals, Arokodare is heading to the Netherlands.

The Nigerian scored just three goals in the Premier League during Wolves’ dismal campaign, which resulted in their relegation to the Championship.

Arokodare had made a name for himself as one of the best forwards in the Belgian Pro League while he was at Genk, scoring 41 goals and dishing out 12 assists in 113 games before relocating to England. With 21 goals, he was the league’s top scorer at the end of the 2024–25 campaign.

During his career, he has also played for FC Mün in Germany, Valmiera in Latvia, and Amiens in France.
