AFCON 2025: “Finishing as top scorer not my priority”  – Ademola Lookman

AFCON 2025: Finishing as top scorer not my priority ? Ademola Lookman

Football player Ademola Lookman has stated that helping the Super Eagles advance at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations is more important to him than being the tournament’s top scorer.

Lookman has been one of Nigeria’s best players in Morocco, helping the Super Eagles advance to the quarterfinals after defeating Mozambique 4-0. He assisted Victor Osimhen and Akor Adams in addition to scoring once during the game.

The forward now has three goals at the competition, matching his total from the AFCON in Côte d’Ivoire in 2023. Lookman, however, rejected the notion when asked if he was aiming for the top scorer award..

“No,” he said. “Personally, I’m just thinking about the team. Now we are in the quarter-finals, our next opponent is going to be another strong team. We scored four goals, another big performance for the team, so that’s what I care about.”

With Nigeria still in contention, Lookman has the chance to surpass his previous AFCON goal record as the tournament progresses.
