AFCON 2025: Ademola Lookman speaks on on-field confrontation with Victor Osimhen

Following a brief on-field altercation during the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) match between Nigeria and Mozambique, Ademola Lookman has downplayed reports of conflict with Victor Osimhen.

Fans and observers speculated about potential unrest within the Super Eagles group after the event, which happened during a recent AFCON encounter.

Lookman regarded the team’s tournament experience as constructive and forward-thinking in his post-game remarks.

“It’s been great, team is improving every single day. I scored goals today,” he said, reflecting on both his contribution and the squad’s development.

Lookman responded simply when asked if he had spoken to Osimhen after the encounter.

“No, I haven’t seen him yet.”

The Atalanta forward clarified that the occasion had been misconstrued by onlookers.

“Nothing happened. We were just discussing on the pitch, that’s it,” Lookman said.

He seemed uninterested when asked if discussing the interaction was crucial for team cohesion.

“I don’t know what the big issue is.”

Lookman emphasised that the team is still totally focused on the difficulties that lie ahead in the competition.

“The finals of the game is something to look forward. Another big battle awaits us, we need to be ready,” he said.

Nigeria continues their AFCON journey with increasing self-assurance as the team strives to keep cohesion and momentum going into the competition’s pivotal moments.
