Following alleged damage of a recently built bridge between Festac Town and Alakija, the Lagos State Government reports that it has detained 27 suspected criminals.

Officers from the Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) task force and the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) conducted a joint nocturnal enforcement operation that resulted in the arrests after officials discovered the alleged damage of vital bridge components.

The operation was carried out in accordance with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s order to rid the Lagos-Badagry Transnational Highway of environmental violations, illegal motor parks, roadside trading, and other illegal activities, according to a post made by Tokunbo Wahab, the Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, on his X handle.

According to the commissioner, investigations showed that suspected thugs had purposefully removed important structural components from the bridge, endangering public safety.

“Investigations revealed that suspected hoodlums had deliberately vandalised critical structural components of the bridge by removing iron rods, steel reinforcements, cables, and other supporting materials essential to the integrity of the infrastructure.”he said

According to the statement, the government’s investment in public projects and the integrity of the infrastructure are seriously threatened by the alleged damage.

Security personnel initiated a coordinated enforcement action after the finding, which resulted in the arrest of 27 criminals.

“The operation led to the arrest of 27 suspected hoodlums, who will be prosecuted in accordance with the extant laws of Lagos State.”
