A man has described how, during talks in Anambra State, his fiancée allegedly demanded that her bride price be raised from ₦3 million to ₦10 million, leading him to abandon his intended marriage.

The man claims that after spending more than ₦4 million on materials needed for the traditional marriage, he flew to Anambra with his fiancée and her family for initial bride price talks.

Citing her two master’s degrees from the UK, the woman’s father allegedly set her wedding price at ₦3 million at the meeting.

His fiancée reportedly interrupted before the man could reply, claiming that ₦3 million was not enough because she was aware of a recent technological deal he had obtained.

The woman reportedly said, “Daddy, ₦3 million is too small. He just closed a $20,000 tech contract last month. If he really values me and respects this family, he should pay ₦10 million…Anything less is too small for someone like me.”

The man expressed his surprise at her father’s lack of response to the demand.

When his fiancée seemed to place a monetary value on herself, the man began to doubt the basis of their planned union.

He concluded, “So I’ll leave you on the market for someone who’s willing to pay the full ₦10 million.”

He claims that as he left the bride price negotiation, no one answered.

The couple’s eventual reconciliation or formal breakup was not further explained.
