“You’ll be jailed if you slaughter Rams, Chickens at home” — Lady reveals

A Nigerian woman who recently returned home after spending more than ten years overseas revealed a startling detail about Malaysian life, highlighting the harshness of common laws.

According to Nigerian returnee Olajumoke Osafile, Malaysians who kill chickens or rams in their homes run the risk of being imprisoned for a full year.

She revealed this during an interview with The Guardian as she reflected on her time in the Asian country.

According to Osafile, Malaysia has extremely strict laws and regulations, even when it comes to things that many Nigerians take for granted.

She stated that anyone caught slaughtering chickens or rams at home faces a mandatory one-year prison sentence.

She further stated that the punishment cannot be replaced by a fine or community service under any circumstances.

“People are not allowed to slaughter chickens or rams in their homes. If you are caught, you will go to jail for one year,” she said. “There is no option of paying a fine or doing community service.”

Osafile responded that Malaysian authorities have not made a public explanation of the policy when asked why such a stringent law exists.

She did point out that many residents think it has to do with issues related to public health and hygiene.

This notion holds that animal blood, particularly in residential areas, can easily draw flies and lead to environmental sanitation problems.

Therefore, instead of killing animals at home, residents must purchase meat from government-approved abattoirs or public markets.

According to Osafile, infractions are taken very seriously and the system is strictly enforced.
