A woman has recounted how she unknowingly disrupted her friend’s 40th birthday surprise after receiving an unexpected private message from the woman’s husband.

She explained that the man sent her a DM asking her to call him, despite the fact that she did not have his phone number and rarely communicated with him.

Initially, she ignored the message. However, after he sent another message, she responded, “I’m busy right now. I’ll call you when I’m free.”

Concerned about having a private conversation with her friend’s husband without her knowledge, the woman said she took a screenshot of their exchange and immediately sent it to her friend.

Her friend subsequently called her and explained that the message was connected to her upcoming birthday celebration. She then asked the woman to return her husband’s call, which she did.

During the call, the man reportedly explained that he had contacted her as part of his plans to organise a surprise for his wife.

He said, “You just ruined the birthday surprise for her. I was planning a trip to Lagos to celebrate her 40th birthday.”

The woman said the revelation left her wondering whether she had made the wrong decision by informing her friend about the private message immediately.

According to her, she felt it was better to be transparent with her friend rather than engage in a private conversation with her husband without her knowledge.

The incident has raised questions about friendship, personal boundaries and the complications that can arise when surprise plans involve communicating with a friend’s spouse.

Reflecting on the situation, the woman asked, “Please, how is this my fault?”
