According to a report by Vanguard on Saturday, August 15, 2026, former presidential media aide Bashir Ahmad has criticised Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, after the singer alleged that soldiers were attempting to prevent him from entering Osun State ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.

Davido had raised the alarm in a post on his verified X account, saying he had been reliably informed that soldiers were seeking to stop him from gaining access to the state.

“I’ve been reliably informed that soldiers are trying to prevent me from entering Osun tomorrow, this won’t happen,” Davido wrote.

The singer argued that Nigerians have a constitutional right to freedom of movement, insisting that the reported attempt to stop him would not be accepted.

However, Ahmad dismissed the claim as an overreaction, arguing that movement restrictions had already been announced by security agencies as part of measures to ensure a peaceful election.

“You are just dramatic, @davido,” Ahmad wrote in a response to the singer’s post.

He explained that authorities had publicly announced restrictions on movement in and around Osun State from midnight on Friday until 6pm on Saturday as part of the election security arrangements.

“It has been widely announced by the security operators that movement in and around Osun will be restricted from 12 midnight today until 6pm today due to the election,” he stated.

According to Ahmad, the restriction was not specifically targeted at Davido but was a standard security measure implemented during elections to safeguard the electoral process.

He stressed that the constitutional right to freedom of movement does not exempt individuals from complying with lawful restrictions introduced for public safety.

“This is a standard security measure during elections anywhere, not peculiar to Osun,” Ahmad said.

He added that the right to freedom of movement should not be interpreted as permission to disregard legitimate security measures established by authorities.

“So the right to freedom of movement does not mean ignoring lawful security measures put in place to ensure a peaceful and credible election,” he stated.

The controversy followed the announcement of movement restrictions across Osun State as thousands of security personnel were deployed ahead of the governorship election.
