“Yes, I got married. Yes, I chose to keep it private for a while” — Viral bride addresses backlash from social media

A viral Nigerian bride has addressed the backlash surrounding her decision to keep her marriage private from her friends for some time.

The bride, identified as Folashade, spoke out after a video from her wedding sparked discussions online, with some social media users questioning her relationship with her friends.

In a statement shared on social media, she explained that she deliberately chose to keep her marriage private for personal reasons and only informed her friends when she was ready.

“Yes, I got married. Yes, I chose to keep it private for a while. And yes, my friends found out when I decided to tell them,” she wrote.

She said her decision was never intended to make her friends appear unimportant or suggest that she did not value their friendships.

According to her, social media users had drawn conclusions about her relationships based on a single moment captured on camera.

“What you saw was one moment captured on camera, not the full story of my friendships or my life,” she said.

The bride also dismissed claims that her friends were fake or that she had deliberately wronged them, stating that they were all fine and that there was no scandal surrounding the situation.

She thanked those who celebrated her marriage and wished her well, while urging social media users to respect her privacy and allow her to enjoy her new chapter.

“I got married, I kept it private, I eventually announced it to the people I love, and that’s really it,” she added.
